Ice-ice disease is a major threat to seaweed cultivation productivity in Alor Regency. This study aims to identify the causative agent of Ice-ice disease through microbiological analysis (presumptive and abundance tests) and evaluate the susceptibility levels of various seaweed varieties. Samples tested included Kappaphycus alvarezii (green and brown strains), Kappaphycus striatum, and Sargassum crassifolium. Presumptive test results showed that all isolates were Gram-negative, catalase-positive, and oxidase-positive. Species identification showed the dominance of Vibrio alginolyticus as the main pathogen found in almost all samples. K. alvarezii Green Strain was identified as the most susceptible variety with the highest infection rate (total estimated ~1.8 colonies/mL) due to coinfection with Vibrio alginolyticus, Vibrio sp., and Aeromonas faecalis. In contrast, K. striatum showed the best resistance with the lowest bacterial abundance (0.3 colonies/mL). The presence of V. alginolyticus in Sargassum crassifolium indicates its role as a natural reservoir. These findings emphasize the need for variety-based and biosecurity-based cultivation management strategies in Alor.
